Our Common Concern readers will be disappointed to know that the Office of Colorado Governor Bill Ritter has failed to respond to my repeated inquiries about his administration’s pronounced commitment to end child poverty.
Last week, the Colorado Children’s Campaign reported that an alarming 180,000 or 16% of all children in Colorado languish in poverty, a number that jumped 73% from 2000-2006. In a statement, Governor Ritter said it was “intolerable that 180,000 children are living in poverty in this state.”
Yet the Governor’s Office has repeatedly failed to respond to this journal, when the public and our readers clearly have a right to know what Mr. Ritter will do to invest in our children again. If you get a chance, please contact the Governor to let him know that we expect better.

The inability of Governor Ritter’s press office to respond to the inquiry made by Our Common Concern is a blatant insult to concerned residents of Colorado, the readers of this blog and journalists everywhere.
Also, speaking as a public relations professional, the fact that this press office would leave any question by a media outlet unanswered is both shocking and an embarrassment to our profession.
