Kenya Project / Long distance champions
Mason Elementary School students join 2007 Boston Marathon men’s winner Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot and 2006 women’s winner Rita Jeptoo at the Franklin Park Zoo yesterday as part of the seventh annual Boston Marathon Kenya Project. METRO
In advance of the 112th annual Boston Marathon, you may be interested to learn about the Boston Marathon Kenya Project, a charitable effort that teaches local schoolchildren about Kenya’s diverse languages, culture, geography and history. Each year, past Kenyan participants in the race — who are, unsurprisingly, often past winners as well — take children to the African Tropical Forest in the Franklin Park Zoo. There, they discuss their native country and offer some running tips, too!
It sounds like a great idea. See the Boston Athletic Association’s press release on the Kenya Project from a few years ago, and learn more about the Boston Marathon here.
See you on the course!
